Authorities in East Rockaway are searching for a man suspected of robbing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from Antique Buyers of Long Island on Main Street. The incident occurred shortly after the store opened, when the suspect allegedly demanded an employee hand over a brown leather briefcase containing the valuable items before fleeing the scene. 

No injuries were reported, and police have described the suspect as a white man, approximately 60 years old, six feet tall, with a medium build, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans, a yellow and white baseball cap, and glasses. Detectives are urging anyone with information to contact Nassau County Police Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.

Well, Rich Aaron, we were talking about right here on Main Street in East Rockaway at a time just about right now, not too far from where we're talking right now, and you know, it's broad daylight, and police say they are still searching for the person allegedly behind this very brazen robbery of the antique store. Nassau County Police said it happened here at Antique Buyers of Long Island at 87 Main Street around 9.13 yesterday morning after the store opened at 9. Suspect allegedly walked in there and demanded the employee inside hand him a brown leather briefcase that contained jewelry valued at over $25,000. Suspect took it and ran from the store. No one was injured. Police have not yet said what type of threat the man made to get the employee to hand over the valuable items. Nassau County Police said they are looking for a white man with a medium build, about six feet tall, around 60 years old, who was wearing a black sweatshirt, blue jeans, yellow and white baseball cap, and glasses. Out here speaking to people in the neighborhood who said this is sort of unusual for this type of location, not expecting this business to be the target of a robbery. The door's always closed. No one has ever, I've never seen anyone coming in there. It's always closed. So something like that would be very surprising. Detectives are asking anyone with information who may have witnessed it, again we're here on Main Street, so a fairly well trafficked area, to reach out to Nassau County Police Crime Stoppers to help with the ongoing investigation. Of course we've reached out to the business for more information. We've not yet heard back. We'll pass that update along to you as soon as we get one.
