Boluarte, who served for nearly three years and was the country's first woman president, departed stating she had served with integrity.

Congress president Jose Geri, who is under investigation for rape, was sworn in as the new president. The political crisis continues, with over 100 politicians facing corruption probes and Boluarte potentially facing charges now that she has lost immunity. Peru has now seen seven presidents in the past nine years.

The decision was unanimous, 122 votes, and Dina Boluarte was out of the presidency. Nearly three years after she took office, Peru's first woman president was sacked for quote, permanent moral incapacity. Flanked by her ministers, Boluarte said goodbye, appearing relaxed and confident. I'm leaving peacefully because I can say with high morale and integrity that I've given everything I have to the Peruvian people. Legislators said that with a violent crime wave spreading nationwide, Boluarte has showed she was incapable of fighting homicides and extortion gangs. One attack during a concert that left four musicians wounded triggered an emergency cabinet meeting on Thursday. Prime Minister Eduardo Arana then tried to convince Congress that the government had devised a series of new measures, but legislators said it was too late. In two years and ten months, Ms. Boluarte had eight interior ministers, each one more inefficient than the previous. Now they try to convince us with a new security plan. Why didn't they implement it when the Peruvians were clamoring for these solutions? Thirty-eight-year-old Jose Geri and Congress president was sworn in as Peru's new leader despite facing criminal proceedings himself. He promised fighting crime will be his priority. Geri is under investigation for rape. A hundred and three politicians are facing corruption probes. Dina Boluarte sanctioned a series of laws that relaxed, even interfered with the prosecution of crimes, laws that favored corrupt legislators and Boluarte herself. The former president may be charged with corruption and her role in the deaths of 49 people killed during protests when she took office, now that she's lost immunity.
