The foreign ministries of both nations confirmed the agreement, which was described by U.S. President Donald Trump as a “full and immediate ceasefire.” The escalation of military actions marked the most intense fighting between India and Pakistan in nearly thirty years.

The recent clashes followed a series of strikes launched by both sides against each other’s military installations. The heightened conflict prompted calls from the United States to restore direct communication channels to reduce the risk of miscalculation. According to India's foreign ministry, military leaders from both countries are scheduled to speak again in the coming days.

Amid the violence, many residents in India and Pakistan have begun stockpiling food and essentials. Families living near the border areas have fled due to concerns over their safety. The two countries remain in dispute over Kashmir and have experienced frequent confrontations, with the latest surge in violence reportedly beginning after India targeted locations in Pakistan identified as “terrorist camps.” This action came in response to a deadly attack on Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir, an incident for which Pakistan denies any involvement. The recent series of clashes have resulted in dozens of deaths on both sides.

The clashes have been the most intense fighting between the nuclear-armed neighbours in nearly three decades. India's foreign ministry said the heads of India's and Pakistan's military operations will speak again on May 12th. Amid heightened tensions, residents across the two countries have been rushing to stockpile food and essentials, while families near the border have fled. Locked in a long-standing dispute over Kashmir, the two countries have engaged in daily clashes since Wednesday, when India struck multiple locations in Pakistan that it said were, quote, terrorist camps. That's after a deadly attack on Hindu tourists in Indian Kashmir last month, which Pakistan denies involvement in. The latest round of clashes have left dozens dead in both countries.
