When the sun sets in Heflin, Alabama, the night rolls in. Every Halloween season, the local high school kids teepee a few houses. But this year, they have upped their game, raining white on just about every business, too. These are the ringleaders. Why? It's just fun. Yeah. Adrenaline rush. And then you don't get cold, and it's like, this is fantastic. It was fantastic. Until they made the mistake of hitting this building, police headquarters. Chief Ross McLaughlin. It was up on the roof. It was the spare cars we had in the parking lot. You had to do something. You're going to have to do something, yeah. After the attack on his station, the chief posted this on social media. We think that rolling the police department was a little uncalled for. He said, we know who you are. And that he planned to take them down, quote, full out, tactical, ninja style. I have a list of houses we will go to. We're going to park down the road and walk to the target. The operation was supported by officers from multiple jurisdictions, all armed to the teeth with toilet tissue. That's right. Chief McLaughlin figured rather than come down hard on the kids, he would go squeezably soft. It was an unusual approach to policing, to say the least. But he did get permission from the parents in advance. And he says he has his reasons for encouraging the kids like this. As long as they're doing this, they're not getting in trouble doing something else. I haven't seen any type of drugs or alcohol involved. I think they're spending all their money on toilet paper. So really, you have nothing to hide. No. But definitely have something to say. I just think it's good, clean fun for everyone. And it's been great for our whole town, the police department, and everybody. And it brings a sense of community. It's just really great. In fact, Heflin's toilet paper war has so tickled this town that businesses are now supporting the troops by putting out free ammunition. And as for the mess, the kids are taking care of that by selling insurance. They call it the Toilet Paper Rapid Response Team. So if you buy their insurance and your yard gets rolled, the youth group will come clean it up for you. So you can buy protection. You can buy protection. You've got like a mob problem in town. Absolutely, yeah. But worth it, he says, because this is so much fun for kids of all ages. I'm just rallying everybody. That way we can hit the next house. It looks beautiful from down there.
