Police are actively searching for Jamel McGriff, identified as the suspect in a double homicide that occurred in Belrose, Queens. Authorities report that McGriff is considered armed and dangerous, and warn residents in nearby areas, including Floral Park on Long Island, to be alert and cautious.

According to police, McGriff attempted to gain entry to homes by asking for assistance, and ultimately entered a residence where two victims, Frank Olten and his wife Maureen, were found dead with severe injuries. The NYPD and local police have increased patrols and are urging the public not to allow unknown individuals into their homes, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Floral Park is just a stone's throw from where those horrific murders took place in Belrose, Queens. In a Facebook post, the Floral Park Police Department says there are extra patrols working and they're staying on top of any related intelligence they get from neighboring agencies. The suspect in this case has been identified as Jamel McGriff and should be considered armed and dangerous, the NYPD commissioner says. On Monday morning, police say McGriff went to a Belrose, Queens home asking if he could come in and charge his phone, but he was denied entry. That's when he went to a second house where he entered the yard, then the home with one of his victims. Cops say five hours later he left with two bags in hand and shortly after that the fire department responded to the home. First responders encountered a shocking scene. Two bodies with horrific injuries. Frank Olten, 76 years old, was found tied to a pole in the basement with multiple stab wounds. His wife Maureen, 77 years old, was on the first floor severely burned. Here's a warning from police commissioner Jessica Tish. For the public, the message is clear. The suspect's MO is to go door to door asking for some kind of assistance until he can gain entry. So do not allow anyone you don't know or who you are not expecting into your home. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, including the victim's son, an active duty FDNY EMT. Now authorities say McGriff has a very lengthy violent criminal history. Again, though this crime happened in Belrose, police here in Floral Park are warning residents to be aware of their surroundings. If you see this man, police say call 911.
