Customers travelling from Sydney Airport to the CBD will be charged a flat rate taxi fare of $60 in a bid to crack down on overcharging and meter refusal. From November 3, Sydney will join the likes of major cities including Paris and New York.

Sydney is set to introduce a fixed taxi fare of $60 for trips from the airport to the CBD, including popular destinations such as Haymarket, Darling Harbour, Barangaroo, and Circular Quay. This initiative, which will be trialed starting in November, is designed to provide certainty and peace of mind for visitors, following ongoing complaints about high and inconsistent taxi charges.

The trial will initially apply only to journeys from the airport to the CBD, with hopes to expand the scheme to other parts of Sydney and return trips in the future. Signage will be installed at the airport to inform arriving passengers of the new fixed fare.

But in a move that puts the harbour city in line with New York and Paris, Sydney will soon trial fixed taxi fares from the airport to the CBD. So you'll know that when you get into a taxi here at Sydney airport and you're going to your CBD hotel, it's $60. That's what it is. That's $60 from the airport to the tourist hotspots of Haymarket, Darling Harbour, Barangaroo and Circular Quay of benefit, mostly to visitors, not locals. While this is just being trialled from the airport to the CBD, it's hoped fixed fares will eventually be rolled out to include other parts of Sydney and return trips to the terminals.
