There's still no rain in the forecast for the next several days as drought conditions worsen across the Northeast.

Weather patterns in the Northeast remain largely dry and warm, with only isolated chances of thunderstorms, particularly in parts of New York. A passing cold front is bringing cooler air, but not the rainfall typically associated with such systems, exacerbating existing drought conditions.

The latest drought monitor update shows worsening drought in northern New England, especially Maine, and elevated drought levels in areas near Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The lack of rain is impacting local foliage, causing early leaf color changes and ongoing stress on trees. Temperatures are expected to remain mild, with overnight lows in the fifties and sixties, and daytime highs ranging from the sixties to mid-eighties.

Northeast stays warm, sunny and dry

Now, one thing we are watching some scattered thunderstorms that could move into parts of New York here, especially we're watching Orchard Park, where thursday night football is happening. Kick off at 8 15. Maybe we see a thunderstorm, a little bit of a brief downpour possible, but overall, I mean, we're staying dry across the northeast, right? That's the whole problem we've been talking about. We have a cold front that moves through as we head into tomorrow. It brings cooler air, but not really seeing the rain and thunderstorms that we often see with a cold front, and that just spells trouble for our drought conditions. We got the latest update to the drought monitor this morning, and the main areas that I'm watching are the same ones I've been watching. Northern New England, Maine. We've seen an increased level of extreme drought or seeing a larger area under extreme drought and even the areas under severe drought. It is just not looking good at this point in the year. The other area we're really watching into Ohio, West Virginia, kind of right on the line with Pennsylvania. That's where we see elevated levels of drought as well. And when is it going to get better? Well, we're looking for drought busting rainfall, right? And that just is not in our short term forecast. That's for sure. We're seeing the impacts, right? Ali was talking about the stress on the trees. It's part of the reason that we're seeing kind of an early leaf, you know, changing cycle here. The leaves changing colors in some areas, especially look at northern New England up in the main widespread fall foliage already expect for that to just continue very early kind of peak colors. Probably as we look at our overnight lows, we're dropping down to the fifties. The sixties not too cold, though, as we look into the next couple of days, we are going to start to get cooler at night, and we see the potential for maybe some frost, but also the dryness causes problems for that. Maybe it just gets cold enough for, you know, the frost potential, but we don't actually see the frost. We look at our Friday temperature wise. We're kind of sticking with the status quo. Sixties seventies mid eighties for New York.
