He also issued posthumous pardons to prominent historic figures such as Albert Macaulay, Major General Marmon Watsa, and members of the Ogoni Nine, who were executed in 1995 under military rule.

The announcement was made following a Council of State meeting in Abuja and was based on recommendations from the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy. In addition, President Tinubu honoured 959 Nigerians and foreigners for their contributions to the nation in fields such as education, science, and public service.
