He inherited an organization in the middle of crisis, in the middle of scandals, Missy Woods and that situation, and our reporting on an agent using the N-word caught on body-worn camera. Now, in his first interview since taking over the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, we asked the new director some tough questions about the culture and the future. There's been plenty of controversy in this building, in the seat you have now inherited. Some might ask, why take this job? Well, first, I think that's a, it's a pretty simple answer for me, is I truly think of this job as a dream job. I would not have left Denver. I would not have left the dream job I had there, but it was for another dream job. This opportunity came up, and I will tell you, it was, I wasn't blind to what was happening, wasn't blind to the controversies. How do you fix the culture that you inherited? First, I think the first thing I have to do is I need to be present, and I need to elevate voices so that everyone is heard. I think one of the things that I've taken away from the previous culture are where folks felt compelled to come to you, and where folks felt compelled to be whistleblowers. How do you repair CBI's image throughout the state? Well, yeah, that is something that I acknowledge coming in, right? I acknowledge that we did not meet the mark that the Missy Woods scandal did leave a mark, and that we have some repair to do with our stakeholders, prosecutors, the public. What I'll tell you is that we are committed to showing up, to being held accountable for our work and our actions, and putting forward the best work. What we're gonna do, and it's just don't, don't just say, I don't expect prosecutors, the public to think, well, CBI's gonna be different because I got a new director. New director Armando Saldate made it clear that he's well aware of the cultural issues that exist inside the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, cultural issues identified by our reporting, and he now says those are a top priority as he moves forward to repair the reputation and the image of the Bureau of Investigation in this state.
