We're learning about this development nearly a year after the state sent the case to the DA, accusing Stewart of breaking the law. Did the DA's office or police ever contact you about the work you did at Dr. J Dental Spa? No. Do you think that suggests that there was never really a criminal investigation in the first place? Right. I was never contacted. No one ever contacted me. Again, I thank God for that. Were you worried? I was, but in the Bible it says not to worry. The woman who calls herself Dr. J expressing relief after learning she won't face charges. There is no Dr. J Dental Spa. Jessica Stewart says she shut it down after I first reported on it 10 months ago. I got the best product. I got the best service. I got the best results. Her website used to list dozens of options from temporary fills to dentures and porcelain veneers. Before we started this interview, you mentioned you've changed some of your services. Why would you change some of your services? So that I won't end up back in this situation. State records show the Department of Safety and Professional Services had been investigating her business for years after receiving complaints from customers. One for allegedly applying braces. Another from Felicia Edwards, who claimed Stewart gave her veneers that fell off days later. My teeth hurt. Very sensitive. I have gaps. I'm scarred for life. Those are my teeth. You're being sued for allegedly putting veneers on on a customer's teeth. There was a second. There was a second complaint to the state. You were given a cease and desist letter that would be illegal for someone without a license to do. Correct. Um, I really don't know. I don't know. Some things you just don't know unless you do your research. And when I did my research, it was saying, you know, there's no shaving of the teeth. No anesthetic given. These are literally press on DSPS informed Stewart of fixing braces and veneers to teeth is illegal without a dental license. But the state agency told me it can only take away or limit licenses. In this case, there was no license to revoke or suspend. She's found a way to kind of slip through the cracks. The Wisconsin Dental Association says it's frustrated by the D. A. S. Decision not to file charges. I really was hopeful that someone in Milwaukee County, the D. A. S. Office, someone would look at this and say, you know, we've got to step in here before this gets out of control. Mark Padgett says the Wisconsin Dental Association worries about the message this sends to others. We're very concerned that this becomes a thing, that this becomes something that other people are going to say. Well, she's doing it. She got away from with it. So now I'm going to do it. I absolutely understand what they're coming from, where they're coming from. Um, but they should understand where I'm coming from to Stewart says she now only offers teeth whitening at her new business, something that is legal to provide without a dental license. As you reflect on the situation, you called yourself Dr J at a business without a dental license. Do you regret doing so? I do not instill to this day. Some people still call me Dr J.
