In today’s Daily Fix, we’re running down a few of the release dates for highly anticipated upcoming games that were announced in this morning’s Nintendo Direct.  In other news, the Virtual Boy is back, Neil Druckmann is hard at work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Nintendo's recent Direct presentation unveiled release dates for several highly anticipated games. Hades 2 will exit early access and launch on consoles as a timed exclusive for Nintendo Switch, with a free upgrade for Switch 2 owners. Remastered versions of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are set to release with enhanced features, and a new Super Mario Galaxy movie was announced. Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond were also given release dates, with Metroid Prime 4 marking a long-awaited return for fans.

Other announcements included the Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics Collection, which will require a dedicated peripheral, and updates on Naughty Dog's next project, Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet. The Bellatro 1.1 update has been delayed due to developer burnout, with no new release window provided. The event also highlighted a charity game bundle supporting Team Rubicon.

Happy Friday, everybody! Max here with your daily fix of gaming news. Coming up, this morning's Nintendo Direct revealed the release dates for some upcoming games, including Hades 2, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and the next Hyrule Warriors, plus Neil Druckmann talks Intergalactic, The Heretic Prophet, and Bellatra's next update has been delayed. Let's get into it. If you slept through this morning's Nintendo Direct, you missed out. There were a ton of surprises and reveals, but some of the most exciting announcements were official release dates for some major upcoming games that'll be dropping over the next few months. You can find a full roundup of everything that got shown off over on IGN, but here's a look at some of the stuff that's coming your way really soon. For starters, Hades 2 has been in early access on PC since last year, but on September 25th, that's just two weeks from tomorrow, version 1.0 will officially launch, and it'll make its debut on consoles as a timed exclusive for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2. The original Switch version will run at 60 frames per second, and the Switch 2 version promises to double that when playing in TV mode. Even better, if you grab it on Switch 1, it is a free upgrade for Switch 2, whenever you wind up getting one of those, if you haven't already. Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Super Mario Bros., and to mark the occasion, Nintendo announced that remastered versions of Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 will be dropping on both Switch consoles on October 2nd of this year. The Wii era classics will feature a number of new features and improvements, including higher resolution that goes up to 4K on Switch 2, an improved UI, a new in-game music player, and the option to play using button and stick or motion controls, which is nice to hear. Interestingly enough, there's also going to be new lore in the form of new pages in Rosalina's in-game storybook. That wasn't the only Super Mario Galaxy news, though. Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the next Super Mario movie will be called the Super Mario Galaxy movie, and it's going to be hitting theaters in the U.S. on April 3rd, 2026, and he revealed the first trailer, which doesn't really show off a whole lot we didn't really see in the first film, but which is very pretty nonetheless, and I will definitely be taking my kid to see that opening weekend. On November 6th of this year, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment will drop for Switch 2, the third installment of the Zelda-flavored Musou series will act as a prequel to Tears of the Kingdom, and it was revealed, wait for it, you're going to be able to play as a Korok. Yahaha! A month after that is the big one, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, a game that fans have been waiting for since 2017, possibly longer. That was when it was officially revealed for the first time. In any case, it's finally going to be released on December 4th of this year for both generations of Switch. We got a brand new trailer that showed off gameplay of Samus on her motorcycle, which looks awesome. It's nice to know that game is finally coming out this year. So, mark your calendars. Nintendo fans have a lot more to be excited about today than they did yesterday, and it's nice that so many games are coming so soon. Looking ahead to next year, a bunch of other stuff got loose, 2026 release windows, including a few surprise announcements, but easily, the biggest surprise was the reveal of the Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics Collection, which is dropping February 17th as part of the Switch Online Plus Expansion Pack, and will include 14 games released over time. Now, here's the catch. It requires a dedicated peripheral that turns the Switch or Switch 2 into a replica of the infamously disastrous and unsuccessful 1995 headset. The plastic headset will cost you $99.99 here in the States, and if that's too much of a buy-in for Teleroboxer, or 13 other games that are only displayed in two colors, there's also a cardboard model which is just $24.99. I don't know who that's a steal for, but you be the judge. That does kind of sound like a joke, right? And maybe the reason for that is because we put together a Virtual Boy Pro trailer for April Fool's last year. I'm going to throw that video at the end of this one so you can check it out and see how it compares to the official Nintendo announcement of the comeback of the Virtual Boy in this, the year of our Lord, 2025. What are we doing here? What timeline is this? Moving on to a game you're not going to be playing in the next couple of months, or possibly even the next couple of years, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann gave a bit of an update on the studio's next game, Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet. Speaking of variety, Druckmann said, Video game development budgets are always a little murky since they're usually not publicly revealed, but according to some leaked court documents, The Last of Us Part II was budgeted at around $220 million. It's unclear how that accounts for salaried full-time employees, marketing, and so on, but it's definitely on the more costly side of game development in history, so it's safe to assume that Intergalactic is going to be well over a quarter of a billion dollars when it's all said and done. We still don't know when this massively expansive game is actually going to come out, but presumably, assuming it's not a total disaster, we'll see it expand as a franchise as well. Druckmann said, When pressed on the possibility of Intergalactic branching out into other media, like, you know, The Last of Us and Uncharted have as a show and a movie, respectively, Druckmann stressed that he's focused on making a good game first, but said that they're open to adapting it into other media with the right partnership. So, we'll have to wait and see. How long we're going to be waiting? That's the big question. Finally, any Bellatro players nervously twitching and checking their watch, waiting for the 1.1 update, I've got some bad news. It's not coming out this year. Previously announced by developer LocalThunk in an interview with Bloomberg, the update promises new Jokers and a revamp of the Matador card, among other things. LocalThunk originally planned to release it this year, but revealed that the amount of crunch that they underwent for the game's full launch and mobile port led to some major burnout. So, rather than repeat that experience for this update, they are taking a more sustainable approach and not working 12 hours a day. And unsurprisingly, that's making it take a little bit longer. So, the current release window for Bellatro's 1.1 update is when it's done, which is a totally reasonable expectation for a free update to a very good game made by a single person.
