The cost of the Metro West rail project may now exceed its budget by $2 billion, prompting Premier Chris Minns to admit some the construction of some planned stations is up in the air.

The Metro West corridor is also central to new housing proposals, with the Housing Now Alliance suggesting the area could accommodate over 370,000 new homes in five years. Plans include redeveloping areas such as Auto Alley in Parramatta for high-density housing, potentially transforming car lots into residential lots if government and defence land becomes available.

The days of selling cars at Auto Alley are almost over. It's time to reimagine that gateway to this city as a place for good high-density housing.
