The program involves patrol cars displaying a steady blue light, indicating extra police presence in areas where there is an uptick in crime or where residents have requested additional patrols.

Officials clarified that the blue light does not require drivers to pull over, unlike the traditional red and blue flashing lights used during emergencies. The mayor emphasized that this initiative is one of several strategies to address crime in the city, rather than a comprehensive solution.

At 6 33 this morning at the top of the hour this morning, we brought you live coverage from Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves and Mayor Quentin Lucas talking about the city's newest effort to try and deter crime case. HB 41 News senior reporter Ray Daniel joins us live. She was there talking to him, asking him questions at KCPD headquarters. Ray fill people in on what their plan is. And you asked a really good question. Where are we going to see this right? Absolutely. Lindsay and Taylor. Yeah, this press conference happened just here outside of KCPD headquarters with KCPD Chief Graves as well as Kansas City Mayor Quentin Lucas talking about their new initiative, this blue light initiative and basically what this is. They said they just want to increase visibility when it comes to Kansas City neighborhoods. If you take a look at your screen, this is what that blue light will look like. It is a steady blue light. They're going to be patrolling different neighborhoods and areas and things like that just so they can make their presence known. I asked Chief Graves, you know, where are they going to start patrolling when it comes to this blue light? Here's what she had to say. Anytime we are asked to do extra patrol, you know, there's a, you know, we're seeming, you know, maybe an uptick in crime or disorder. We'll make sure that we turn our blue lights in and around that area. Just make sure that those who asked us for extra patrol see us out there, know that we've heard them and that we're serving. Now, the mayor did say this isn't a one all fix all when it comes to deterring crime. This is just one way that we can help deter crime in the area. And when you see that blue light, so if you see those patrol cars running with that blue light in and around your neighborhood, that does not mean you have to pull over. That just means the police presence is there. If you see that red and blue flashing light, that means you either need to pull over or go off to the side so they can get to where they need to go to reporting live in Kansas City.
