We begin tonight with the search for the suspect in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Law enforcement released two photos of a person of interest and they say they've recovered the gun believed to be used in the shooting. Justice Department correspondent scott McFarland joins me now. So scott update us on the latest about the investigation. This day began quite early in Utah this morning with the FBI and police saying there have been some breakthroughs that they got some leads. But as the evening began in Utah, no one in custody just yet, according to Utah State Police. But you can see there the images shared by the Salt Lake City field office of the FBI. They have images to share with the public. They now have $100,000 reward. They have the firearm. They say this gunman dumped in the woods as he was jumping off a roof, running through woods, then running through a neighborhood outside the campus. And they also have set up this tip line where they are asking people to submit whatever images and videos they have. And john, as the day ended in Washington and in Salt Lake, they had 130 tips so far. Wow. Is there and I assume scott that they're just blanketing the area. What other kinds of things are they doing? And I'm gonna ask you a double barrel question. What's you? You know, you cover the lawmakers in Washington. What's been the reaction among those who are public officials? We talk about the investigation alone. There is bipartisan denunciation, universal denunciation, of course, of the assassination. But for the investigation, there is a sense that things do just feel differently from the outside. You know, the communication from the Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the top law enforcement agency in America has largely been by social media post from the FBI director who, as the evening began, was in route to Utah to be on the ground there. The other tools in the toolbox. Well, the State Department of Public Safety, the University Police, the FBI, the A. T. F. The marshals are all there. There is a canvassing and a blanketing of a campus that is now closed indefinitely in a neighborhood that is now saturated with law enforcement.
