A 42-year-old man, Steven White, was critically injured after exchanging gunfire with West Valley City police at his residence following a minor traffic incident. The confrontation began when police traced a reported gun threat during a traffic exchange to White's home, where negotiations failed and shots were fired as officers entered.

White was transported to the hospital, and no other injuries were reported. The incident prompted a significant police presence, precautionary protocols at nearby schools, and the investigation has been handed over to West Jordan Police.

This is a neighborhood where that standoff and officer involved shooting happened. West Valley City Police said all started with a minor traffic incident just after 8 this morning, West Valley City Police told us they believe the two drivers were pulling off to exchange information when a gun was pulled by one of the drivers. A woman reported it to police with the other drivers license plate, which led police to the home of 42 year old Steven White's residence near the 3600 block of Oxford Way. West Valley City police say they tried to negotiate with whites. But they couldn't get him to come out. They went into the home where they say whites fired at officers. Police said one of the officers shot back hitting him. They took whites to the hospital in critical condition. Neighbors nearby were stunned at this morning's chaos. I just come up to, uh, I guess the SWAT team outside and the roads are blocked off, so it was kind of crazy. I didn't hear nothing. We didn't get nothing like text message the shelter in place, but that's that's kind of crazy to have this kind of come home to this after work. We don't know how many gunshots were fired in the only injury. Police reported was the suspects who being treated earlier in the day. Schools nearby were also under protocol as a precaution.
