A fire broke out in a building in Epping, NSW, filling it with smoke and flames. Firefighters responded quickly and rescued a 55-year-old man who was trapped in a storage unit above a Domino's store. The man was unconscious and received immediate CPR from paramedics, but he died in hospital despite their efforts. The blaze took about an hour to contain, and nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. Investigators are examining the scene to determine the cause of the fire, and it is believed the man had been squatting in the unit at the time.

Smoke and flames fill this ebbing building, a race to save the man inside. I hear someone screaming and with the cracking sound of glass and then the fear trunk was was coming. Trapped in a storage unit above a Domino's store, firefighters pulled him from the burning building and onto the footpath. They actually had to force that door open and they made entry in the bottom part of the door so they had to crawl under the bottom half of the door to get in. They didn't remove any windows because they're barred which probably prevented that person escaping. Paramedics gave the 55 year old urgent treatment. He was unconscious and CPR had to be commenced immediately on him. But despite their best efforts he died not long after in hospital. The blaze took an hour to contain. Several residents in nearby flats were evacuated until it was extinguished. It was really smoky. The upper level has been left gutted by the blaze alongside some damage to the bottom floor. Fire investigators and forensics today sifting through that wreckage as they try to determine how it was sparked. It's believed he'd been squatting inside the storage unit at the time.
