Witnesses say the pilot was fighting to gain control of the chopper for about five minutes before it fell from the sky. This was a training flight. Emergency services have just told us that a 19-year-old student pilot was conducting flying exercises. He's clipped power lines and trees and crash landed on top of some cars in a car park on the edge of the industrial estate in Bankstown Aerodrome. The instructor, a man in his 50s, he sadly died here at the scene. The teenager is tonight fighting for life in Liverpool Hospital. He suffered a fractured jaw and spinal injuries. The pair were still strapped into their seatbelts upon impact and had to be cut out. Take a listen to what paramedics had to say. There were multiple bystanders that assisted before the first responders arrived on scene and assisted the 19-year-old out of the helicopter and moved him to a safe location. They probably helped save his life. Lockie, the airspace is still operating as investigations into those critical final few moments are being carried out, but no doubt a very devastating evening for all their loved ones.
