A 29-year-old man has been charged over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Western Sydney woman Thi Kim Tran earlier this year. Police believe she was targeted due to her husband's alleged connections to organised crime gangs.

A 29-year-old man, Thian Nguyen, has been charged in connection with a violent attack in Bankstown, New South Wales, which resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman and serious injuries to an eight-year-old boy. Police allege Nguyen facilitated the attack with three masked offenders, who assaulted the child and abducted the woman from her home. The woman's body was later found in a burnt vehicle in Beverly Hills. Authorities believe the attack was linked to a business dispute involving Nguyen and the woman's husband, who is being treated as a witness and has not been charged. Nguyen faces charges of murder and grievous bodily harm and intends to plead not guilty. The injured boy is receiving ongoing treatment and is reported to be recovering.

The details of the attack are horrendous. A woman shot and then set on fire, an eight-year-old boy beaten with a baseball bat. And this man, 29-year-old Thian Nguyen, is alleged to have facilitated it all with three masked offenders in tow. And allowed those offenders to seriously assault that child and then to kidnap and strip the woman naked in the street. The 45-year-old was abducted from her Bankstown home. Her body later recovered in a torched vehicle in Beverly Hills. Detectives say Thai Kim Tran and the child became the target simply because her husband was not home. In New South Wales, it's extremely rare. Family, females, children are normally not involved in this type of revenge attacks. Police allege Tran's husband formed a business relationship with Nguyen in 2022. In January 2025, he was hired to cook methylamphetamine for a Victorian drug syndicate. He is then alleged to have stolen a large quantity of drugs. We are treating him as a witness for this investigation. He has not been charged with any drug-related offences. Police now have the three violent offenders allegedly hired by Nguyen firmly in their sights. Nguyen was not required to appear before Bankstown local court today, facing charges of murder and grievous bodily harm. His lawyer did not apply for bail but did indicate he intends to fight the charges. I do anticipate that he'll be pleading not guilty. The boy suffered serious head injuries. Police say he's receiving ongoing treatment but has made a remarkable recovery. Sarah Naven, 10 News.
