Three New York City mayoral candidates—Zoran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa—participated in a business forum where they discussed their policy proposals. Mamdani emphasized plans for free and faster bus services, property tax reform targeting wealthier neighborhoods, and increased city involvement in the MTA. He also indicated consideration of retaining the current police commissioner if elected.

Curtis Sliwa highlighted his opposition to congestion pricing and his focus on subway improvements, while Andrew Cuomo proposed doubling seats in gifted and talented programs and opposed closing Rikers Island, suggesting redevelopment instead. The forum provided a platform for the candidates to present their visions for the city's future ahead of the upcoming election.

Bianca Peters, Zoran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Lewa each spoke at Crane's Memorial Forum. Our Morgan McKay is live on the east side with a closer look at this event. And Morgan Mamdani actually moved from the forum to another event involving buses. Tell us about it. Hey, Bianca. Hey, Bianca. Yeah, Zoran Mamdani riding buses right now with the Transport Workers Union president and other elected officials to highlight his plan to provide not only free buses, but also faster buses. But as you mentioned, all three mayoral candidates attending the Crane's Business Forum earlier today. Now, Mamdani highlighting his plan about property tax reform that would shift the tax burden on wealthier neighborhoods and his plan to create more jobs by making it more affordable to live in the city. When asked about how he would staff his administration if elected, Mamdani wouldn't commit to a specific person besides reiterating that he is considering keeping Jessica Tish as police commissioner. Mamdani also said he wants the city to have a larger role in running the MTA, pointing to how its unreliability and high cost has forced many New Yorkers to lose faith in the system. Amidst the MTA being a state agency, the city controls the streets of this city. The city determines the speed by which buses will actually travel. And right now, they're the slowest buses in the country. They're traveling at an average speed of eight miles an hour. And for all of the focus on the economic relief and the public safety relief, what we sometimes miss are the larger economic benefits to productivity if we were to have buses that were fast. Now, Curtis Sliwa also at the forum without his signature red beret, Sliwa points out how he has more money than Andrew Cuomo and doesn't believe the polls when asked if he'll drop out. Sliwa says he's been in talks with former Governor George Pataki about who to staff his administration with if elected. He also said he opposes congestion pricing, a program put in place by Cuomo and says the MTA should be focused on improving the subway. Already, there's a depleted number of Jersey residents coming in to enjoy the benefits of shopping, going to the theater or restaurant. If Jack Cittarelli gets elected, and it's a close election, he is going to retaliate with a commuter tax against people leaving the U.S. And this is all it does. It accelerates these foolish, ridiculous taxes that do nothing for nobody. And Andrew Cuomo, also at the forum, takes aim almost immediately at Mamdani. Cuomo says he would double the number of available seats in the gifted and talented public school program. He also criticized Mamdani's corporate tax plan, saying businesses would go over to New Jersey. Cuomo also made some news saying if elected, he would not close Rikers Island. Instead, he would rebuild new jails on Rikers and use a halfway completed borough-based jails for housing and commercial development. The city is required by law to close Rikers by August 2027, but the project is way behind schedule. The writing is on the wall. It promises to be New York City's big ditch. It is already years late, billions over budget and obsolete. We should rebuild new state-of-the-art jails on Rikers Island, provide free bus service and use those existing sites for housing and commercial development. And again, we are waiting for Mamdani to get off the bus here and we will be catching up with him and we'll have more in our later shows. Reporting live, I'm Morgan McKay. Bianca, back to you.
