The officers were arrested earlier in the year, with the acting defence minister stating that the plot was thwarted by specialised services. The government also alleges that a French national, Yann Christian Benavizier, was involved in the operation. Authorities have condemned the attempt and confirmed that judicial investigations are ongoing to uncover any additional accomplices. This incident follows a previous purge of military officers last year, some of whom reportedly joined a separatist group.

Notably the government alleged a foreign national from France, Yann Christian Benavizier, actively participated in their foiled operation. The transitional government has condemned their attempt and assures that judicial investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices. This is not the first such purge. In May of last year General Goita dismissed six other officers who were later reported to have joined a separatist group.
