Early morning, and Libyan teams are in the streets, clearing what used to be Dedna's main road. Alongside them, international teams clear what used to be people's homes. One of the rescue teams that we just met outside was explaining to me how they go about searching these ground floor apartments. Essentially, they go in, the easiest way is to spot by eye if bodies have risen to the top of the water. Otherwise, they go in with this stick and they're able to kind of poke around and see if there is anything that feels like a body. The last thing they do is they'll smell around. Generally, that is one of the best indicators of if there will be a body present. They have a huge mission ahead of them. Nearly 400 buildings are submerged in mud, many more damaged. That's a quarter of this city. And nearly 900 buildings were swept away by the floodwaters. Much of Dedna has been evacuated, and a state of emergency is in place. Still, we meet those who have made the decision to stay. Shall we go? Can the world find me, my family, my neighbors and friends a safer place than our hometown? Show me where this place is now. He says it wasn't Storm Daniel that wrecked his city. It was the weak infrastructure of the two dams that burst during the storm. He also blames those who control eastern Libya. No maintenance was conducted on the dam. This dam has absolutely destroyed Dedna. Throughout the day, we meet various relief teams. Some hand out aid. Others search the Mediterranean coast for bodies washed ashore. Needs are multifaceted and growing. And for locals, Dedna is a city of faith, tradition and togetherness. For them, that's a palpable loss too. In this supermarket, the only thing left standing is a sign that reads, it's all God's plan. And he is the most powerful.
