Born in Los Angeles, she studied drama and headed to New York to chase a life on Broadway, but ultimately it was Hollywood that beckoned. I was, of course, overwhelmed by a secret desire early on, this was me early on, to be funny, you know, kind of like Gail Storm in My Little Margie. Keaton also directed several projects, including this music video for Belinda Carlyle. But it was acting that was her true love. I'm an actress first, and I certainly can't say that I enjoy directing. No, it's very hard, you know, it's not so easy. Keaton never married, but was linked to some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Warren Beatty. She adopted two children in her 50s. Off screen, she was known for her tailored style marked by menswear and her refusal to conform to standard Hollywood ideals. I would always fail because they would always say to me, you're too kooky. The prolific actress was working on three productions when she died. We thought we were going to have her forever, and it's just such a gut punch. But her name and her extraordinary body of work will go on. I don't think about my film legacy. I'm just lucky to have been here at all, in any way, shape or form. I'm just fortunate.
