This time, the group only expects 10,000 to turn up, but police say that still exceeds the safe limit for the forecourt. It's not a matter of us not wanting them to have a public assembly. It's not even a matter about it being at the Opera House itself. It's about public safety. Insisting it was in no way based on the events there two years ago when hundreds attended a pro-Palestinian rally after the Minsk government lit up the sails in the colours of the Israeli flag. The protest turned to chaos as flares were thrown and an Israeli flag was burnt. ALL SHOUT Organisers maintain those responsible were not members of their group. Our Opera House should be a place that brings people together, a place of unity, not division and not hate. But it has also long been a symbol of anti-war protest. Every week over the past two years, the Palestinian Action Group has held peaceful protests and marches through the city without major incident. They say next week's Opera House rally would be no different. That is if the court allows it to go ahead. Whether they take us to court 100 times, we will continue defending our right to protest in order to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are facing one of the most atrocious crimes in our lifetime. The judge did, however, raise several issues, including that he isn't confident attendee numbers wouldn't go above the 10,000 flagged by organisers and acknowledged that where the bridge protest in August had the option for protesters to turn around, the Opera House forecourt is a, quote, "'colder sack'".
