Current Mayor Eric Adams, who is trailing in the polls, received an endorsement from small business owners and emphasized a holistic approach to supporting local businesses. Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo remains behind in the race and did not hold any campaign events during the latest developments.

Well, Bianca, typically the mayoral election campaign season doesn't kick into high gear until after the Labor Day weekend holiday, and the kids are back in school. But this time around, it's no ordinary race, and most of the major candidates are not wasting any time. This morning, frontrunner Zoran Mamdani was joined by Brooklyn elected officials to call for safer streets for bike riders and pedestrians and to blast the Adams administration for what he calls widespread corruption. The mayor has had countless opportunities to rid his administration of those who have been alleged time and again to engage in corruption. And yet at seemingly every opportunity, he chooses to keep them close. And that says something about the style of leadership that he wants to practice in this city. Republican and independent candidate Curtis Sliwa held his own press conference this morning in Midtown at the entrance to the Lexington Avenue 53rd Street station to detail his plan to make the city and the subway system safer. When I started the Guardian Angels in 1979, the Bronx was burning. The Bronx is bleeding because of an unprecedented surge in violent crime. I've also asked my wife Nancy to join me here today because there has been a surging number of attacks on women, especially men who are perving on women. One just this weekend in Astoria, Queens, right near the home of Johan Mandami. Mayor Adams, who was running last among the four major candidates, accepted an endorsement just a short time ago at City Hall from a coalition of small business owners. And oftentimes when you think of small business, you only think about the particular shop. But we viewed it holistically first under the first commissioner at SPS, Small Business Services, and now under Commissioner Groves. We knew we had to provide a holistic approach to helping businesses, because when I walked in the restaurant, I don't sit at a table and just have a meal. I go into the kitchen. I speak with the bartender, the dishwasher, the busboy and girl, the waiter, and ask them, what can we do to help you? Now, independent candidate Andrew Cuomo still trails behind Johan Mandami by double digits and has no campaign events scheduled for today. That's the latest from the newsroom. Bianca, back to you.
