Hundreds of Israeli police officers were deployed to the southern port of Ashdod to process some 450 international activists detained by Israeli naval forces hours earlier in the Mediterranean Sea, Israeli authorities said.

The Marinette, the last remaining boat of the Global Sumid Flotilla, continues its journey toward Gaza after Israeli naval forces intercepted and detained more than 40 other vessels. Over 450 foreign activists, including Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg, were taken by Israeli authorities off the Gaza coast. Thunberg released a video stating that their mission was non-violent and in accordance with international law, and called for their immediate release.

Israeli officials stated that those detained were safe and would undergo deportation procedures. The interceptions have sparked spontaneous protests across Europe, Australia, and South America, with some demonstrations turning violent, particularly in Spain and Italy where police used tear gas to disperse crowds.
