Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel would control the whole of Gaza, despite mounting international pressure that forced it to lift a nearly three-month blockade on aid supplies that left the enclave on the brink of famine.

Israeli officials have approved the entry of what they describe as a "basic" amount of aid into Gaza, following recommendations from the Israel Defense Forces. This decision comes after an extended blockade on aid shipments that had left the enclave facing widespread food shortages, with international organisations warning of potential famine.

According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel will maintain control over the entire Gaza Strip. He stated that allowing limited food aid is part of Israel’s ongoing military objectives. The specifics of what constitutes "basic" aid were not clarified, but aid is reportedly beginning to move across the border.

United Nations officials confirmed they were contacted regarding the resumption of aid deliveries but raised concerns about the logistics, given the ongoing bombardments in Gaza and the safety of aid workers. Israeli authorities reiterated concerns about Hamas potentially intercepting aid and indicated they would take steps to prevent this.

The blockade, imposed in early March, was originally intended to pressure Hamas to surrender, lay down arms, and release hostages. Concurrently, Israeli forces have intensified military operations in both the northern and southern areas of Gaza, including new incursions and increased airstrikes.

Evacuation orders were issued for several neighbourhoods, with Israeli officials stating around 60,000 people were instructed to move for their safety. Humanitarian organisations continue to raise questions about where displaced residents can go, as military operations and bombardments persist.



Israel says it will allow ‘basic’ amount of food into Gaza

Yeah, so just as a quick sort of reminder for everyone, it was not too long ago that the IPC said the entire population in Gaza faces prolonged food shortages, that a half a million people were in a catastrophic state of hunger, and warned if nothing changed, there would be widespread famine. Yesterday, at the Security Cabinet meeting in Israel, officials approved a move to allow aid into Gaza. It was said that this would be basic aid. The recommendation was made by the Israel Defense Forces. We don't know exactly what they mean by basic aid, but aid is said to be starting to move across the border. United Nations officials had been raising questions, saying they were contacted about this, but they had many questions about how it will happen, given the intense bombardments that are underway of Gaza and ensuring their workers' safety. So we did hear this morning from Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. He posted a message on social media saying that allowing the food aid would go towards their war aims. Let's take a listen to his message posted on the social media platform Telegram. So he's saying there that starvation can't happen, that there are still ongoing concerns about Hamas stealing the aid and that they will take steps to ensure that that doesn't happen. Of course, we should highlight the fact that Israel put in a blockade of all aid shipments back on March 2nd, saying that that was to pressure Hamas to lay down its weapons, to surrender and to release all of the hostages. And so as we've been reporting as well, we're also hearing about this new incursion into Gaza. What are we learning about that? That's right. So this started just the other day. Israeli defence forces say there were strikes right across Gaza in the north and in the south. They are intensifying operations, saying that this goes towards their war goals. As I just mentioned, those goals have been restated by Israeli officials to release all of the hostages as well as get Hamas to surrender. Israeli officials are saying that they will take, secure all of Gaza and then relocate the population for their own safety. Last week, we saw evacuation orders issued for several neighbourhoods in the north and the south. Israeli officials saying about 60,000 people were told to once again leave. The question of where do they go remains a very serious question being asked by a number of humanitarian organizations. But those bombardments continue and they say they will continue to intensify.
