A suspect was indicted today for the 1984 killing of 16-year-old Theresa Fusco, News 12 sources say.

Authorities in Nassau County have charged Rich Bellotto, 63, with two counts of murder in connection with the 1984 death of Teresa Fusco. Fusco, who was last seen at her workplace near a roller skating rink, was found dead a month after her disappearance.

Investigators began surveilling Bellotto in the previous year and used DNA evidence from a straw he discarded at a local smoothie shop to match DNA found at the crime scene. The district attorney's office credits advancements in DNA technology for enabling the arrest, providing closure to Fusco's family after four decades.

saying, quote, quote, we got the guy 40 years later of the death of Teresa Fusco. The suspect is Rich Bellotto, 63 years old. He is facing two counts of murder. He lived just a block away from the roller skating rink where Teresa worked 40 years ago, 1984, about a mile away rather from that rink. That's the last place she was seen. She was found her body a month later after her disappearance in woods near that area as well. Right now, Bellotto is accused of strangling, raping and killing Teresa. The Nassau County District Attorney's Office began surveilling, as we have just learned back in February of last year. Now they wouldn't go into detail about how they put eyes on him or why, but they said that through incredible improvements of DNA, they are able to link Rich Bellotto to Teresa Fusco's murder 40 years later. Incredible, incredible details. Just mentioning here that prosecutors say that they were covered a cup and a straw from a local tropical smoothie in Suffolk County, and that is how they were able to match the DNA found on Teresa 40 years ago.
