Rain is desperately needed across most of the Northeast, but heavy rain falling on extremely dry ground could lead to flash floods this week.

Thunderstorms have developed across the Northeast United States, with cells merging to form lines of heavy rain, especially in eastern Pennsylvania. Lancaster County has received between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain, with additional rainfall expected, prompting a flash flood warning. The risk is heightened due to previously dry conditions, making it difficult for the ground to absorb the sudden influx of water. While no flash flooding has been officially reported yet, authorities note that such reports can be delayed. The storms are also causing minor travel delays at major airports along the East Coast, including Dulles and Orlando, with the potential for more widespread impacts as the weather system continues.

flash flooding has been a concern, as you mentioned into Lancaster County P. A. It is. Yeah, we're starting to see some of these thunderstorms that started small cells kind of merged together into a little bit of a line and that is leading to some problems. So I admit cast pulled up first two reasons. Pittsburgh, you're about done with the rain, so there's good news there. You get a little bit of a break, but into eastern Pennsylvania, that's where I want to focus because that's where I was talking about those cells kind of merging together. You see a lot of reds here, those heavy downpours, and I pulled up minute cast because that does not have the lightning like my radar loop does. So you can really see what's going on now. Let's talk about that flash flood warning into Lancaster County, just like Jeff said. But one detail here I want to point out. So this warning issued because an inch and a half to 2.5 inches of rain has already fallen in this county and they're already expecting another half an inch to an inch additional rainfall. Yeah, that's gonna cause some problems, especially Jeff was mentioning. Because of how dry it's been, the ground is really hard and it's hard for the ground to soak up all of this rainfall at once when it has been so dry. I know it's kind of counterintuitive and you would think, well, you know, it needs this rain. What's the problem? But it does run into some problems when we look at our storm reports, nothing showing up yet as far as any kind of flash flooding reports into eastern P. A. But sometimes it takes a little bit for the storm reports to show up. In fact, we look towards the Ohio Valley and this line of thunderstorms we were tracking yesterday with the severe thunderstorm warnings, the tornado warnings, the National Weather Service. They're still asking for storm reports. So sometimes it's even days later that we're looking at some of these things. Most of us in the northeast has picked up a couple tenths of an inch of rain, but that will pick up as we head into tomorrow because what you're seeing right now as far as just these kind of scattered thunderstorms and you'll see the flash flood warning popping up there, it becomes more widespread tomorrow. Now, tonight, though, we could see some damaging wind gusts. We could see some small hail. Very localized, though. Then tomorrow again, things become a little bit more widespread. Now, all of this, especially as we get later into the week into those major airports along the east coast, Jeff, that's gonna cause travel issues. We're seeing some of that right now. Places like Dulles, Virginia, the western part of the D. C. Metro minor delays there. Orlando seeing minor delays. Now we still continue to see minor delays into Houston.
