Texas Children's Hospital in Houston has set up a holiday market for its young patients and their families, aiming to bring the festive spirit to those unable to be home for the holidays. The market allows children to shop for gifts for siblings, parents, and caregivers, creating a winter wonderland atmosphere within the hospital.

The initiative is designed to support the emotional well-being of patients, with staff believing that happier children better tolerate their treatments. Among the patients is seven-year-old James Davis, who is undergoing chemotherapy but finds joy and support through the hospital's efforts. Doctors remain optimistic about his recovery, and his family values the hope and support provided during this challenging time.

So Texas Children's is bringing the magic of the season to them. I think if the children are happy, they tolerate their treatment better for sure. The hospital started its own holiday market for children and their families. They've really created this winter wonderland here. There are gifts for children and for adults so that these kids can shop for their siblings, their parents, or even their caregivers. Seven-year-old James Davis was diagnosed with an aggressive blood cancer. As mother Mariah says, the last few months have been tough on them emotionally. We talked about things that might happen. He would get tired, he might get sick, he would lose his hair, and of course that's when we broke down and we both cried. James is scheduled for chemotherapy over the Christmas holiday, but today he's not thinking about treatments. The hospital is very sweet and they have so many things and so much support. Doctors believe James' cancer is curable, so the best gift of all this year is his healing to come. How we can fit all of this? Karen Waugh, CBS News, Houston.
