Both Israeli and Palestinian voices highlight ongoing uncertainty, with some fearing a repeat of previous scenarios where ceasefires were not upheld.

Hope and cautious optimism surrounds potential Gaza peace deal

Local community members and leaders are weighing in on what the president is calling the road map for Gaza peace. ABC 10 News reporter Tali Latoy spoke with leaders on both sides of the matter about what they're hoping to see and what their expectations are this time around. Similar to last time local community members are once again expressing cautious optimism when it comes to a potential deal for peace in Gaza. While some are hopeful others believe there are loopholes in that 20-point plan that won't do much change. Finally what appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel for hostages. Friday Hamas stated it could accept the Trump administration's proposed peace deal to end the nearly two-year war in Gaza which included the release of Israeli hostages both living and dead. These hostages don't have a lot of time left the ones that are remaining alive so I really hope that we can come to some sort of agreement and see them home in the next few days and see an end to this very long war. Hamas did say other elements of the 20-point plan would need further consultation among Palestinians before a deal is reached. It's a very complicated plan and we don't actually know which points Hamas is challenging at this point. Heidi Gantwork the CEO of the Jewish Federation of San Diego tells me like previous ceasefires she's cautiously optimistic but still hopeful. I think it's the most hopeful development we've seen in quite some time but I also know there is still quite a lot of difference and a lot of negotiation to happen. Gantwork recently returned from Israel and shared photos with me to show the continued impact this war has had on families on both sides. I think while we're all cautiously optimistic we've also seen time and time again over the past few years we've gotten very close to a deal and then backed away. Hamas has changed the terms or Israel has not been able to live with the terms Hamas has offered so we want to be hopeful. For local Palestinians like Samar Ismail an end to war isn't what she sees in the plan. We have always wanted peace and it seems to be that Israel continues to violate the ceasefire so I really don't know what to expect or if they're gonna back out again. Instead a similar scenario she's seen play out before. This plan outlines similar circumstances where there won't be international outcry the same way that it's happening right now.
