And many establishment Democrats have been avoiding backing a candidate in the race, but Hochul's support is a sign that the party is starting to unite behind Mamdani's momentum. And with Mamdani's commanding lead in the polls, will this key endorsement seal the deal in November? Fox 6 Meredith Gorman joins us live right now with this breaking news. Arthur, Natasha, this is breaking. Now just a short time ago, Governor Kathy Hochul announced she's throwing her support behind Assembly Member Zoran Mamdani in the New York City Mayor's race. Now Hochul says collaboration between Albany and City Hall is critical and that she believes Mamdani is best positioned to deliver for the 8.3 million New Yorkers they both represent. Now Hochul said to the New York Times that she pressed Mamdani on the importance of ensuring strong leadership at the top of the NYPD and that he agreed and that New York needs leaders who will stand against President Trump. Now here's part of what she had to say that she released in the New York Times piece announcing her endorsement tonight. In the past few months, I've had frank conversations with him. We've had our disagreements, but in our conversations, I heard a leader who shares my commitment to a New York where children can grow up safe in their neighborhoods and where opportunity is within reach for every family. I heard a leader who is focused on making New York City affordable, a goal I enthusiastically support. Now, Mamdani also released a statement saying Governor Hochul has made affordability the centerpiece of her work. I look forward to fighting alongside her to continue her track record of putting money back in New Yorkers' pockets and building a safer and stronger New York City where no one is forced to leave just so they can afford to raise a family. As for other New York leaders, for her to endorse Zoran Mamdani and to come out strong in favor of Mamdani's policies on affordability policies that she shares, this is a huge boost for the Mamdani campaign. As for other New York leaders falling in line with Hochul, such as Senator Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the same Democratic strategist says that's very possible. When the governor comes out and endorses, I do anticipate other Democratic leaders that have been on the fence to endorse Mamdani. I can't speak for Leader Jeffries, for Senator Schumer. Every leader has to make their own decision, but it certainly gives the impression that there's so much momentum. Mamdani has been leading the polls ever since he won the Democratic primary, and he's considered to be the clear frontrunner to win City Hall. Now, Arthur and Natasha, back over to you guys. All right, Meredith, thanks so much. And the Adams campaign reacting and addressing new rumors about the mayor dropping out of the race. A spokesperson using an expletive to describe the situation, writing in part, quote, these lies are being spread by desperate opponents who can't match the mayor's record, his campaign energy, or his support across the city. As for the Republican candidate, Curtis Leeua's campaign issuing a statement, writing, quote, the worst governor in America just endorsed the worst candidate for mayor. They deserve each other. New Yorkers see through the backroom politics and know Curtis Leeua is fighting for them, not the insiders. Now, Fox 5 has reached out to the Cuomo campaign as well for comment, but have not heard back yet. They are touting today's endorsement from Bishop Calvin Rice, endorsing Andrew Cuomo for the mayor of New York City, the pastor of the New Jerusalem Worship Center, saying the city needs unity and leadership that gets results.
