Greta Thunberg, along with other pro-Palestinian activists, was detained by Israeli authorities after attempting to breach the naval blockade of Gaza as part of the Freedom Flotilla coalition. The group, which included European Parliament member Rima Hassan, sought to draw attention to the humanitarian situation in Gaza and deliver aid.

Israeli officials stated that the activists were handed over to police for deportation, and those refusing to leave voluntarily would be brought before a judicial authority. Thunberg and other activists claimed they had been 'kidnapped,' a characterization disputed in the report. Aid brought by the activists is set to be delivered to Gaza through official channels.

A far cry from her arrival by yacht, pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel activist Greta Thunberg has left Israel via an El Al aisle seat near the bathrooms. The Israeli Foreign Ministry said Tuesday the detained activists, including Thunberg, were handed over to police to be deported. However, eight of the 12 who were intercepted as their vessel tried to breach Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, including Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament, have refused to leave voluntarily and board their deportation flights. Those who refuse to sign deportation documents and leave Israel will be brought before a judicial authority in accordance with Israeli law to authorize their deportation. Consuls from the passengers' home countries met them at the airport. The pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla coalition, which operates the British-flagged boats Madeline, had set out to bring attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and deliver a symbolic amount of aid to the strip. Both Greta Thunberg and the other activists on board the Madeline had dramatically claimed they had been, quote, kidnapped. Well, she's a strange person. She's a young, angry person. I don't know if it's real anger, it's hard to believe actually, but I saw what happened. Was she kidnapped by Israel, as she says? Was she kidnapped? I find it. I think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that he instructed the IDF to screen a 47-minute long video depicting atrocities committed by the Hamas terror group on October 7, 2023, to the detained activists once they had safely arrived at the port, but said later that they had refused to view the footage. And the small amount of aid the activists brought with? According to reports, it will be sent to Gaza through official humanitarian channels.
