Due to the government shutdown, the Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach will look a little different this year.

This includes crowd favorites such as the Air Force Thunderbirds, F-35 fighter jets, and NORAD demonstrations, which will not participate due to the shutdown's impact on federally funded activities.

Despite these cancellations, the airshow will continue as planned, featuring international teams like the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the Royal Air Falcons. Many attendees, some holding tickets from the previous year's weather-affected event, have expressed disappointment but plan to attend and support the show.

Welcome to the Fox 11 News at 5 on Fox 11 Plus. I'm Christine Devine. The government shutdown now in its second day with no end in sight. Democrats are not budging from their demand for concessions on health care. President Trump is now threatening sweeping spending cuts to government agencies. He's warning that layoffs of federal workers could be in the thousands. The Senate is off today for Yom Kippur, so no votes on anything are expected before tomorrow. The shutdown's likely to extend into next week. That shutdown having a major effect on the Pacific Air Show. It's this weekend here in SoCal. People not happy about this. Fox 11's Cristina Gonzalez live in Huntington Beach. Cristina. Yeah, where they have already put up all the flags and decorations are up on the pier and all up and down PCH. The issue, though, is because of the federal, you know, shutdown, performers connected with the US military will not be here. And that includes the crowd favorites, the Thunderbirds. Listen. The Air Force Thunderbirds are favorites. Every year here, they will not be here. Neither will be the F-35 fighters, jets. The demo from NORAD, flight interceptions, also will not be here. Air show organizers say they still have a five-plus-hour show. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are going to be here. The Royal Air Falcons, and they're quite amazing. Many more, but visitors, they're not too happy about the whole thing. Listen. We come down for that every year to watch the F-16s fly and, you know, break the sound barrier. But it is what it is. You've heard? Yes, I have, and I'm totally bummed out about that. I think a federal shutdown's a federal shutdown. I mean, anything federally granted and funded is going to get trimmed down. The Thunderbirds are not going to be here. Right, right, right. I like the fast jets, but I think it'll still be nice. And now what is interesting, a lot of the people who actually have tickets for this show, they're from last year because, if you remember, the fog kept a lot of the show from being seen. So now we have this going on this year. They're having a rough time, but people, I think, everybody we've talked to, they plan to be here, and they plan to be supportive. But at 530, a little later in the show, we want to show you one of the teams that will not be here, NORAD, doing their flight interceptions, how they are going to, for example, stop a plane that is not supposed to be in the air from coming in. How do they do that? Well, stay with us because you're going to see that later on in this show. But the air show does go on tomorrow here. At 10 a.m., it starts.
