Hundreds of mourners have gathered at a Jewish memorial centre in Sydney's east to farewell the youngest victim of the Bondi terror attack, 10-year-old Matilda. She was one of 15 people while attending Chanukah by the Sea.

The Premier read an ode to Matilda, and speakers emphasized unity and collective grief, assuring Jewish Australians that they are not alone in their sorrow.

This video of her watching another victim, Rabbi Eli Schlenger, perform a Jewish ritual on her father marked some of their final moments. But today wasn't about how she died, rather the light Matilda brought to the lives of everyone around her. I do love sunshine. She's genuinely the most kind, caring and compassionate young girl who brightened everyone's day with a radiant smile and infectious laugh. And Matilda as an ode to Australia. The Premier read aloud an ode to Matilda. Though sorrow fills the campfire and tears the night have found, Matilda's name now honoured in every sacred ground. He was among several politicians and dignitaries who came to pay their respects and join the Jewish community and Matilda's loved ones in bidding her a final farewell. It's an impossible goodbye, but Matilda's loved ones certainly aren't facing it alone with hundreds of people here today and countless more here in spirit. In hard times like this, this is what we do. We come together and that's what we came to do, to show the support and strength. I say to Jewish Australians, you do not share this grief alone. And nothing makes it any easier or comprehensible, especially for the youngest in the crowd. Matilda is also known for close bonds with her sister.
