Starting a business can be stressful and costly, but on the campus of the University of San Diego there are free resources and help available for students and the public.

The University of San Diego hosts the Brink Small Business Development Center, one of ten centers in the San Diego and Imperial County region, offering free resources to both students and the broader community. The center provides one-on-one consulting, networking opportunities, and access to legal and funding resources, which can otherwise be costly for new entrepreneurs.

Through these services, the Brink Center has supported the creation of over 1,500 businesses, including ventures like Athletiverse, a digital marketing agency founded by Dominic Ballard. The center's guidance is credited with helping entrepreneurs save time and money while developing their business ideas into successful enterprises.

Starting a business can be costly and stressful, and here on the campus of USD, in a room like this, ideas are transformed into reality. As a student at USD, We've been with them from ground zero. Dominic Ballard wanted to start his own business, but he wasn't quite sure how to make it happen. I think when you're certainly a young entrepreneur, you tend to overcomplicate a lot of things. There's a lot of things you want to do and try. That's when he found the Brink Small Business Development Center on the campus of USD. It's one of 10 centers in San Diego and Imperial County. There's just nothing like it. I don't know if there's another opportunity out there today that doesn't cost anything to create something that has really no limit to it. After meetings and attending workshops, his company, Athletiverse, a digital marketing agency, was born. I started working with different teams around San Diego, just helping them make content for social media. And there are many others like Dominic who have been able to turn their dreams into a reality. At this USD location, there have been upwards of 1,500 businesses that have been created. Stephen Flynn, the interim director of the Brink, says they offer free services to all students and members of the community, providing one-on-one consulting, organizing networking opportunities, and offering legal and funding resources. Services that could cost you upwards of a couple thousand dollars. Getting even a one-hour free session with someone who can kind of tell you where you might want to make changes with your business idea or how to get started. It's going to save you a lot of really early, save a lot of your time and money early on so you can get started in a good direction. Which Dominic says helped him develop his business to what it is now, working with sports teams and companies across the country and all over the world.
