Victoria Police have arrested four teenage boys at the end of a police chase that started in the city's east and ended in the Melbourne CBD. The group got out of the car at Bourke Street Mall and attempted to flee on foot.

A group of four teenagers was arrested in Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall after a dramatic police pursuit. The incident began when police spotted a car driving erratically, which later struck a woman on Exhibition Street. The car, believed to have been stolen, stopped at the mall, where the teenagers exited and reportedly entered shops armed with machetes. Police quickly apprehended the group, who are aged between 15 and 17. The Victorian Premier condemned the incident, calling it dangerous and disgraceful. The woman struck by the car was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Now to a developing story tonight out of Melbourne. Four teenagers have sparked a major emergency in the Bourke Street Mall, terrorising shoppers before finally being arrested. We've got Rory Campbell live from there tonight. He joins us now. G'day Rory. How did this frightening incident actually unfold? Well, Sandra, witnesses tell us a car came screaming down the Bourke Street Mall here this afternoon. It stopped. A group of four people got out and ran into nearby shops. Police were hot on their heels. Witnesses tell us only a matter of seconds behind, officers headed in after them. They were able to track them down and they brought them out in handcuffs, searching them on the street before taking them away in a divvy van. Now police spotted this vehicle travelling erratically on the Eastern Freeway in Doncaster here around 12.30 this afternoon. The car hit a woman on Exhibition Street, another CBD street here in Melbourne. That woman was taken to hospital. Her injuries aren't life-threatening, but she was taken to hospital for observation. This car was believed to have been stolen yesterday. Police say there weren't any weapons involved what happened this afternoon. But witnesses, tell us otherwise. And then next thing we know, BMWs came speeding down, easily probably 60, 70 k's an hour, flying down here in Bourke Street Mall, pulls up out in front of Myer and JD Sports. And then next thing we know, we see four teenagers come out, all of them with machetes, and they all run into Myer. And then next thing, probably 10 seconds later, the police turn up, and then they're on foot as well, chasing them, going into Myer, and obviously the whole area got to lockdown. And a bunch of stores, I think, started shutting their doors when they heard what was going on. Two of the teenagers arrested are 17 years old. The other two are aged 16 and 15. They've been interviewed by officers this afternoon. Sandra, the Victorian Premier has just released a statement calling this dangerous, disgraceful behaviour that won't be tolerated.
