In his statement, McGregor expressed support for those he described as the 'forgotten Irish' and criticised what he called 'establishment woke politics.' Despite ending his campaign, he affirmed his ongoing commitment to Ireland. McGregor's candidacy had received backing from Elon Musk and a welcome from former US President Donald Trump. He has also faced legal issues, including a civil rape conviction and a separate sexual assault accusation. The Irish presidential election is scheduled for October 24.
