Although neighbours and firefighters responded quickly, the fire destroyed most of the family's belongings, leaving them with only a few possessions. Tragically, one of the family's five dogs died in the fire, while the others survived. The family is now seeking temporary accommodation and assistance as they recover from the loss.

Mother of six, Kalia Ansell, hugging her family a little tighter this morning, racing home after a harrowing phone call. My neighbour rang me. We were at my friend's birthday, an hour away. We got the call that my house was on fire. Thankfully, none of my children were in there. The blaze erupted just before 7am, sparked by an electrical fault. Thankfully, her two older boys, who were dog-sitting, weren't home at the time. They were on their way to the shop to get milk, so I'm so glad someone was watching over them. But to the kids' heartbreak, one of the five dogs inside died. They were all in the garden to begin with, but then they made their way into the house during the fire. So I've got mum and dad dog, and they have three babies, and he was trying to go back and drag them all out. He didn't make it back to get the last one. Yeah, it's sad, very sad. It was a bang and there barks that alerted nearby residents, who then called emergency services. The help who arrived contained the fire within half an hour. The families praised the bravery of neighbours, including one who grabbed a hose to help douse the flames. Despite those efforts, it's unlikely anything can be salvaged. We have swags and clothes on our back left. The family of eight will likely stay with relatives until they can get back on their feet. If anyone knows of any rentals going, that's pretty much it, I guess. I don't know. I just need a home for my kids. Rebecca Wilson, 10 News.
