Emergency services transported the injured to St Vincent's Hospital, where medical teams are working to save lives. Authorities have established an exclusion zone around Bondi Beach and are investigating reports of a possible improvised explosive device, though this has not been confirmed.

Community leaders, including the National Imams Council of Australia, have publicly condemned the violence and called for those responsible to be held accountable. The incident has caused significant trauma within the local and wider Australian community, with many witnesses expected to experience lasting psychological effects.

We know that many of the 11 people who are injured or who were wounded in the shooting, including the gunmen, have been brought here to St Vincent's Hospital. Two of the wounded are police officers, 10 killed, of course, on the official numbers that we have at the moment from the police, 11 people wounded. And so we've seen in the course of the last couple of hours ambulances coming, sometimes police driving the ambulances so that the ambulance officers themselves, the paramedics, can work on seriously injured people in the back of the ambulance as they were turning up here. We've seen people coming in great distress, arriving straight from the beach, in one case a woman in a bikini turning up here trying to stay with and stay across what's happening to loved ones after these extraordinary appalling scenes that we've all been a witness to through the pictures that have been starting to come through. We've also seen police arriving, escorting one particular ambulance. It's not confirmed, but it is certainly conceivable that given the amount of police attention to the man being removed from the ambulance, that he is the wounded gunman that has now been brought in as the effort goes inside this hospital to try to save more lives. We've heard, as we've just heard from Chris there, people going down to Bondi Beach. It is, of course, the instruction of the police to stay away from Bondi Beach at this time. You're probably not at this stage able to help anyone. It's best to stay away from it. There is an exclusion zone because they still have matters that they're trying to resolve, including the potential for items that are on the ground, reports of an IED, an improvised explosives device that may well amount to nothing, but it has to be ruled out as a possibility. So certainly no sightseers. It's not a night for that down around the Bondi area, nor indeed here to St Vincent's Hospital. And while, of course, no one yet is confirming what the motivation is for what was plainly an organised attack, we do know that there were a large number of Jewish Australians gathered there for the Feast of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, the most joyous of the Jewish holy periods on the calendar when this gunfire opened up. And we have heard just in the last short while from the National Imams Council of Australia, who have put out a statement. They say that the Australian Muslim community unequivocally condemns the horrific shootings at Bondi. These acts of violence and crimes have no place in our society. Those responsible must be held fully accountable and face the full force of the law. That is a statement from the Australian National Imams Council and the tone of that very much mirroring the stuff we're hearing from Jewish Australian leaders, but of course, every leader across Australia today responding with just a national sense of shock and disgust and dismay, a sense of a traumatised segment of our community. Hundreds of people, not just those who have been wounded, but who were witness to these terrible events will carry the scars of that for the rest of their lives. And a deep scar tonight goes across the Australian community as it tries to take in those appalling scenes from Bondi during the course of the day. And in the meantime, of course, the surgical teams are working to save people's lives behind us. We expect to get an update in the next hour or so on those casualty numbers. But at the moment, 10 dead, including one gunman, 11 injured, including one gunman and two police officers.
