How are lawmakers reacting? Yeah, there's a clear divide in where messaging is headed as it relates to this shooting. We saw Republicans come forward and really express gratitude for law enforcement for sub-neps so quickly in response to this tragedy. We got a tweet from Speaker Mike Johnson who said that he was heartbroken about the tragedy but also sends his thoughts and prayers to the family there. It's Democrats who are coming out a bit more forcefully saying that now is the time to address extensive background checks. For example, we heard from Senator Amy Klobuchar who was in town, by the way, for the DNC summer meeting that ended early in wake of the shooting. Here's what she had to say. Minnesota is not alone here. This is not about one state. This is about states across the nation. People just need to tone down their rhetoric. They need to look at actual solutions across the aisle, Democrats and Republicans, when it comes to guns and acknowledge that this is not going to hurt hunting, it's not going to hurt lawful gun owners if we have better background checks or if we do something about who gets assault weapons. Democrats are in lockstep on this issue. We also heard from Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries who said, quote, weapons of war have no place in our neighborhoods, streets, or schools. Benny Thompson, who's the chairman of the Gun Safety Committee or Task Force in Congress, he's a Mississippi congressman, said that he believes the White House, Republicans, and Congress have blood on their hands for an action on this. Again, this is something that is deeply dividing when it comes to Congress, whether or not to speak on solutions this quickly, but Democrats are taking the lead on this, especially considering the proximity to their big political party meeting, summer meeting, that just happened there not too long ago.
