Canadian officials have announced $1 million in support for victims, while a new regional drug enforcement team is being formed to address gang-related extortion. Police in B.C. recently executed a search warrant, arrested multiple individuals, and seized items as investigations continue, though critics argue more needs to be done to protect victims.

Delhi police say Bandhu Man Singh Sekhon was taken into custody earlier this week. Accused in an international arms trafficking case in India. The task force is aware of the statements made that there is maybe a connection to a file here and we are working on that and we expect to have some information in the coming days to substantiate that. Investigators in India say he came to Canada on a work visa and then fled. Last year, Peel police charged Sekhon with a series of guns and conspiracy offences. Kat's Cafe in Surrey is owned by Bollywood star Kapil Sharma and has been fired at three times. No one was injured. Indian police allege Sekhon provided logistics including the getaway car. It's just one of more than a hundred cases linked to extortion in B.C.'s lower mainland. Mostly targeting South Asian businesses. One man and two women have been injured in separate incidents. People need to know that we are unified, that police are coordinated, that they have the resources they need. The federal and provincial governments now announcing $1 million to support victims. But there's sharp criticism that police are not doing enough. Shots were fired into a South Asian radio station where this host works. Because unless they can assure the victims that they can provide them with resources to ensure them and their families are safe, then people will start paying up and they will not report. A new regional drug enforcement team is being created to help tackle gangs which police say in some cases are linked to extortion. By sharing information and resources they'll be able to act faster and more effectively. Police say they are making progress but aren't saying how many officers are involved. So Mira, what kind of progress are they talking about? The B.C. extortion task force gave an update. They say police executed a search warrant this morning at a home in the lower mainland.
