Jones credited the PD-1 drug trial for his recovery, although it led to hip replacements due to side effects. 

Jones stated he is now cancer-free and expressed gratitude for the medical care he received, as well as the support from those around him. He emphasized the importance of a positive attitude and staying engaged with the NFL and the Cowboys throughout his treatment. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer also shared his own past experience with thyroid cancer, highlighting the prevalence of such health challenges.

We're just now learning about a cancer battle fought by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones over the course of a decade. Fox 4's Mike Ducey and Sam Gannon joining us in studio with the details on that. Hannah, in number five of the episode of the new Netflix series about the 90s Cowboys, Jerry Jones references his cancer battle. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Jones detailed that fight. Jones says he is now cancer free. Back in 2010, though, he was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. It had spread, so he needed two lung surgeries and two lymph node procedures as well. After a decade's worth of treatment that included an experimental drug, Jones says he now has no tumors. Moments ago, after practice in Oxnard, California, Jones talked a bit about those troubling times. You don't like to think about your mortality, but I was so fortunate to have some great people that sent me in the right direction. I got to be a part of a trial that was propitious. It really worked. It's called PD-1 and it really, really, really worked. It ate my hips up. I had to have both hips replaced because it was rough on your bones. But other than that, I'm so proud to get to be sitting here with you guys and get to do what we do. 82-year-old Jerry Jones discussing a battle with cancer that he fought for a decade or so. Again, he says he's now cancer free. Jerry, as you heard, emphasizing that he realizes millions of people deal with similar struggles every day. And Jerry says he's thankful for the medical treatment he was able to receive. And Jones says keeping a positive attitude helped him during his struggles. There's no question that from my point of view, the great life that I get to have, believe it or not, being around you guys, being around this team, being around the NFL, being around sports, that for me, if you need to be around a positive attitude when you're trying to deal with something like that, I've been around it. So I've been blessed to, as I dealt with that cancer, I've been blessed to get to be a part of the NFL. You know, I got involved with the Cowboys because unlike it seems sometimes, seriously, it was a poor, poor investment. I got, I was with the Cowboys because I wanted the job of running the Cowboys. And not necessarily for my children, not necessarily for anybody. I wanted that job. And that's the way it's been. And focus and when you're passionate, get totally engulfed in what you're doing, that helps you deal with some of the other issues we deal with a lot. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer at his nukes news conference today praised Jerry for sharing his story and the coach revealed his own cancer scare from years ago. 23 years ago. In fact, Schottenheimer was treated successfully for thyroid cancer and has been healthy ever since.
