While authorities have not determined whether the drones were military or civilian, investigations continue, and Moscow has denied any involvement, attributing accusations to regional tensions.

At Copenhagen airport on Monday there were no flights for four hours because large drones were detected in the air. 31 flights in all were redirected, affecting the travel plans of 20,000 passengers. Given the size of the drones and how long they flew over the target area, we have concluded there was most likely a competent pilot controlling them. Police investigations and information gathering are ongoing. It could not be determined if the drones were military or civilian, but the airport finally reopened. It's the latest aviation incident giving authorities in the Baltic region jitters. Many eyes are turning to Russia, which has been accused of violating the airspace of NATO member states in recent weeks. Last Friday three Russian planes entered Estonian airspace, while two weeks ago about 20 Russian drones flew over Poland. At a UN Security Council meeting called by Estonia on Monday, the US issued a stern warning to Moscow. The United States stands by our NATO allies in the face of these airspace violations and I want to take this first opportunity to repeat and to emphasise the United States and our allies will defend every inch of NATO territory. Russia must urgently stop such dangerous behaviour. Moscow denies any involvement and says no proof has been forwarded, preferring instead to blame what it calls a climate of Russophobic hysteria in Estonia.
