Colorado Governor Jared Polis has announced $250 million in budget cuts and spending redirections in response to a projected $783 million budget shortfall. The cuts, enacted through an executive order, include $103 million in direct reductions and additional funds redirected from state reserves. 

The largest impacts will be felt in Medicaid and higher education, with the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing seeing significant reductions, particularly to Medicaid provider rates. The governor emphasized that there will be no cuts to K-12 education or public safety. The shortfall follows a reduction in federal spending and recent legislative changes eliminating certain tax breaks for businesses.
