Kansas City is undertaking a major infrastructure project to upgrade Stadium Drive, the main access route to GHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which will host six FIFA World Cup matches. The improvements include new sidewalks, enhanced lighting, a bike path, and better access to Yvonne Stark's Wilson Park, which will serve as a gathering space for fans.

The project, valued at approximately $3 million, is funded by both previously approved city council allocations and an additional $1.5 million from capital improvement funds following community input. City officials aim to complete the upgrades on time and within budget, with concrete work scheduled to finish before the World Cup and resurfacing to follow.

Is currently making improvements on a major road leading to G. H. A. Field at Arrowhead Stadium, which will host six World Cup matches. So as a voice for everyone, I took a closer look at how the project will be impacting traffic and the long term impact beyond the World Cup. For the past four years, the excitement over Kansas City hosting six World Cup matches at G. H. A. Field at Arrowhead Stadium keeps on brewing, captivating the attention of former World Cup players. I remember watching the World Cup in 94 in the U. S. It was an amazing World Cup, but this one's gonna be bigger for sure. It's the pinnacle. Everyone's careers playing in the World Cup. So to have one of the year the venue's been here in Kansas and having six games, it will be amazing. K. C. 2026 expects an estimated 650,000 World Cup fans to come into K. C. And a key access point to G. H. A. Field Stadium drive currently seeing changes to accommodate fans and people living nearby. We were looking on a long term solution where we can have this connectivity where local residents can use this. The timing was right that we are going to improve it for World Cup lane closures are in place along Stadium Drive at 31st Street. The project aims at revitalizing Stadium Drive from 31st Street to Raytown Road. The final project will include new sidewalks, additional lighting, a bike path and improved access to Yvonne Stark's Wilson Park, which the city plans to turn into a space where soccer fans can get a taste of Kansas City. Once you are at the park, there is a vendor space where vendors with food drugs can access that area and later the fans can walk all over to Raytown Road where FIFA will take over at that point. The overall project, according to the city, is about $3 million. Part of that money was already approved by City Council and recently 1.5 million came from the city's capital improvement funds after community members asked for additional improvements like lighting and park accommodations. We got their feedback. We went to our council and said, Hey, these are the improvement the community want, and this is the additional funding need. The goal is for the project to be done before the World Cup, which Casey most says will be on budget and on time. I'm confident that we are going to get it done. We have weekly and daily meetings as needed. So the city says concrete work should be done by March and then resurfacing work and pavement markings will begin in April.
