Thirteen young hostages, believed to have been kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram members in Sigeg, Cameroon, have been released and returned to Marwa. The group included three Chadian citizens and ten Cameroonian students who had disappeared earlier in the month. The release was achieved through coordinated efforts by Cameroonian armed forces, the BIR, Gendarmerie, safety committees, and local residents. 

Tragically, one hostage, Bissela Bryan, was killed during captivity after a ransom was not paid in time. The victim's family has requested the return of his body. The incident underscores the increasing frequency of kidnappings linked to Boko Haram in the Far North Region of Cameroon and neighboring areas.

They are finally free. Thirteen young hostages, who were likely kidnapped by Boko Haram members in Sigeg in Cameroon, have been returned to Marwa. Three citizens of Chad and ten Cameroonian students, who had disappeared on 13 August, were freed by armed forces. One hostage was, however, killed during his captivity. Eleven other hostages had been taken deep into Nigeria. But thanks to the joint effort by our armed forces, the BIR, Gendarmerie and the safety committees and even the population, everyone has played their part and we have freed them. But sadly, Mr Bissela Bryan was killed. The killed hostage was on his way back from holidays in a bus with his four siblings when they were kidnapped. In Yaoundé, their mother was at the centre of efforts to get them back. But aid came too late for the boy, who was executed because a ransom payment was not made in time. I am sad concerning my son who is not with us anymore and I am happy that the others came back. For the one who is not here anymore, I am still asking the government to give me his body, which was not found, so that I can grieve him. In the Lugon-e-Sharie, Mayosava and Maïte-Naga vicinities, kidnappings related to Boko Haram have become a more and more frequent plight for the inhabitants.
