A medical plane transporting a pediatric burn victim from Merida, Mexico, crashed more than a mile off the coast of Galveston, Texas. Bystanders, including 11-year-old Sky Decker and his father, were among the first to arrive and helped rescue nurse Miriam Mancia, one of two survivors, from the wreckage.

The crash resulted in the deaths of a two-year-old patient, his doctor, and four members of the Mexican Navy. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred in dense fog conditions.

She was in a pocket of air. With jet fuel floating on top of the water, she was in a dire situation. Flight radar shows the plane taking off from Merida, Mexico, crossing the Gulf, then approaching the Galveston Airport before disappearing off radar over the Bay. The Beach King Air 350 I, similar to the one seen here, was transporting a pediatric burn victim to a Children's Hospital in Galveston. The two year old patient, his doctor in four members of the Mexican Navy died. Dense fog blanketed Galveston Monday. The Decker say despite the low visibility, they did not hesitate to join the rescue effort. What do you think about people who are calling you a hero? Oh, I just think I was the right guy to be there at the right time that I'm comfortable with the water and God put me there at the right time to save that woman. Now this is the very boat the Decker's were on as they drove through thick fog and saved that woman. In the meantime, the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
