Many residents have lost everything, with some forced to sleep outdoors as winter approaches. The scale of destruction is immense, with aerial imagery indicating that around 41,000 housing units have been destroyed, resulting in over 8 million cubic metres of debris. Despite the challenges, including insufficient equipment and deteriorating machinery, residents are determined to begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.

Carving a path through the rubble, an overwhelming task, as Palestinians return to their land and what's left of their lives. The level of destruction I've seen so far is truly beyond comprehension. Just opening the roads alone will take at least a month, just so people can access the area. The bulldozers are in poor condition. The one I'm using is leaking oil and needs major repairs. To be honest, we need 20 times the number of bulldozers we have got. Clearing the roads into Gaza City is the first step to recovery. But for many who have come back, beyond the debris lies only disappointment. When I arrived here, I was in shock. This was my home. It was five stories high. It housed me, my uncles and their children. Tears came down my eyes. We've lost everything. I had daughters in university and now we're sleeping on the streets. Winter is coming and we have no idea where we'll sleep. With the cold weather fast approaching, Palestinians are in desperate need of help. According to the latest aerial imagery, approximately 41,000 housing units have been destroyed in Gaza City alone. This translates into more than 8 million cubic metres of rubble. Gaza is under millions of tonnes of rubble. But road by road and brick by brick, Palestinians are determined to clear it and rebuild their homes and that starts now.
