Kim Le Court, a cyclist from Curepipe, Mauritius, recently achieved a significant milestone by winning a stage at the Tour de France Femme. She described her surprise at wearing the yellow jersey, noting that it was not a goal she had set for herself but a dream come true. Le Court credits her perseverance, support from her family, and rediscovering her love for cycling after a challenging period in Europe as key factors in her success.

Le Court also reflected on her early life, recalling a childhood battle with malaria and her first memories of riding a bicycle in a hospital corridor. She discussed the rapid growth of the cycling community in Mauritius, especially in mountain biking, and expressed pride in inspiring others to take up the sport. Looking ahead, Le Court is motivated by the upcoming World Championships in Rwanda, aiming to achieve further success for Mauritius and Africa.

A lot of people have asked, was it a goal going into the tour to do all those, to achieve all those achievements? But it actually wasn't. I just never thought I could be that person to break the barriers and inspire others. We have a nice update for you. Why? You have the yellow jersey. No. You have the yellow jersey. Why? You have it, but why? A lot of videos online show how shocked I was and I was not believing in it. I didn't even trust my team that I was in yellow. And once I was beyond the podium, kind of putting the jersey on, that's when I really realized that, okay, it's actually on me now. It's real. Dream come true, to be honest. And standing on the podium and just seeing Mauritian flags in the crowd in front of me is the most special thing ever. So how does a girl from Cure Pippin Mauritius become a stage winner on the Tour de France Femme? That's a good question. I really ask myself this question a lot. I think it's just perseverance. I think for me what worked best is knowing when to back off. When I was in Europe in 2015 and 2016, it didn't work out for me. Mentally it was very difficult being away from home and financially it just wasn't possible. So when I came back home, I almost stopped cycling completely. I was mentally completely burnt out. But luckily I decided to just carry on for fun and try and fall in love with the sport again, which I did. And then I think it's just believing slowly but surely, achieving things on the mountain bike scene, having the people around me, I mean, my husband and my family are the people that really push me to do what I'm doing today. They believed in me more than I've ever believed in myself. And I think if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you guys right now. I mean, I think your dad has told a story about when you were three years old and ended up in hospital in France, being given very slim chances of survival fighting malaria. And then you were cycling down the corridors of the hospital on a bike. And I wonder how much you think that fight from three years old has kept you going and maybe perhaps made a lot of who you are and your story today. Yeah, it's very funny that I was riding a bicycle down the corridor the next morning that I kind of woke up from coma. And it's the only moment I ever remember from this whole situation of being sick, which is a little bit crazy. I don't know if it's kind of put me on that path without knowing, because between that time and starting cycling, I was not at all into the cycling community at all. I actually didn't really follow at all. I didn't know anything about cycling. So it is a little bit funny. How would you describe the cycling community in Mauritius? I think it's grown enormously. On the mountain bike scene more than the road scene. But I can see development in the federation, you know, the community changes, the people changes. There are more and more people that believe in the sport more, that believe that we can do something special, especially now with what I've achieved in the past 18 months. The motivation has been completely insane. I think I've managed to motivate so many Mauritians and I've had so many messages of really random people that's never touched a bike in their lives that now started cycling. And I've also motivated the people that's always wanted to dream and be in the situation I'm today to push even harder. If ever there was a jersey close to the World Championship rainbow, it's the Mauritian flag. I mean, is that next on the agenda? Because there's a huge World Championships coming up, another mega milestone moment with it being held in Africa, in Rwanda. Being held in Rwanda, Africa is, I mean, it's so cool. I think it's the perfect moment to really try and do something extremely special for Africa. I for sure want to swap my beautiful Mauritian flag to add one more stripe. And yeah, if that happens, then for sure people can't confuse me anymore, unless they'll be really like, whoa, but I thought she was Mauritian. What happened? Maybe then they'll call me, oh, Mauritian champion. I don't know. But yeah, I think it's going to be the World Championship of the most crowds. I don't think European people realize how crazy it's going to be in terms of supporters. It's going to be crazy.
