Witnesses reported gunfire lasting up to 15 minutes, with many beachgoers fleeing and leaving belongings behind as police worked to secure the area and assist victims.

Authorities have not confirmed the number of shooters or whether any remain at large, and are actively investigating the situation using social media evidence and witness statements. The area remains under heavy police control as officials work to reconstruct the events and ensure public safety.

Look, it's still a matter of piecing together the stories of the many, many people that we hear. As you can see, Bondi Beach is a large area, popular at this time of year, and if you have a look over here, it's a sign of how quickly people had to react. A stroller, a rug, everything left as people ran. I just spoke to a man on the other side of the road. He has a tobacconist there. He says he estimates the firing went on for at least 15 minutes. He couldn't see a response in that time. He ran down there, as many did. He tried to help those that he could. He had blood all over his hands. He said it was just carnage, and as you can see, the scene continues all the way from headland to headland. There are significant numbers of police. They're on the water. They're in the air, and they are getting people out of these car parks as best they can. Even us will get a move on order shortly, but they have been trying to clear this area as they try and unpack all of the events. Obviously, there was a lot of the social media evidence that's coming out was from a Jewish group that were gathered down at Bondi this evening. A lot of the early pictures came from them. We're not sure if that was a target of this attack, but it appears that these shooters were a bit indiscriminate from that point. The evidence we have is that they were firing downhill towards beachgoers, people with their families. A lot of those people have now been pushed across the street to the many businesses here. The pubs are taking people in. There are people in tears everywhere. This has rattled the entire area. Police are still closing the scene. We expect some update as this night goes on. They're moving in all kinds of resources, such as the SES, to help with those efforts. They'll be setting up areas of control and management for the situation down there as they really put it all together. But very much an eerie scene in what is one of the world's most iconic beaches this evening just after sunset. We're seeing people ushered out. There's one or two people in the water. There are police boats dipping out beyond the breakers, choppers overhead and sirens from headland to headland on the main roads here. So a very, very serious situation tonight and one that is going to take some time for authorities to manage and to let us know exactly the circumstances that have led to it and what's happened in the aftermath. Chris, have you had any confirmation from police or are you confident at this stage there's no active shooter there at the moment? I mean, obviously, if there was, police wouldn't allow you to stand there and broadcast, presumably. Yeah, look, it's a little unclear at the moment still. As I responded, as the media and the emergency services did, there was a lot of activity through the mall areas here at Bondi. Police cars were flying through those. The chopper was sending messages overhead just saying an emergency incident is unfolding. They were staying indoors, which made it very uneasy for everybody here because no one was sure if the threat was still an active one. And at the moment, we're not entirely sure. We're hearing some reports that the fourth casualty is one of those shooters. We know from the social media clips that we've seen that it appears there was at least perhaps people acting in tandem. So it's unclear how many people were involved and therefore how many might still be in the area. The problem is that once you leave the foreshore, it's a very densely populated area full of apartments and businesses and mall zones. So with police moving so hurriedly and about as amped up and active as I've seen them in a very, very long time, there were tactical police here super quickly and they were pushing crowds. They were closing all the streets and they're still very tense. They're having a bit of trouble with people down here with the surf vans hanging out on the beach who haven't adhered to those move-on orders. And they're getting very, very aggressive at getting people out of this area. That said, we haven't heard any gunfire. We haven't seen anything that suggests that threat is ongoing, but that's not to say there aren't people on the run tonight. It's just very unclear at the moment. All we know is it's an enormous area of control that police are working with at the moment.
